Speedhunter SCION FR-S

Speedhunter SCION FR-S

SCION’s hot new FR-S in Speedhunters.com tuned form. Very interesting paint material creation on this one.

To recreate the paint of this real-world drift car, I had to figure out a way of combining gloss black, matte black, semi-gloss metallic gray, metallic orange and both logos and stripes onto one material to be applied to the UV unwrapped body.

This schematic from MAX’s Slate material editor indicates how I was able to combine multiple blend material types into one composite material.

Black and white bitmap masks control the separation of the colors within each blend material and how that nested blend material combines with the one above it in the hierarchy.

Needless to say this didn’t come about without some forethought and planning, but it does indicate that some pretty wild combinations of materials can be put together into one master material.

Have fun experimenting!
